Nexium (esomeprazole magnesium) is a prescription drug used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in adults. There is limited evidence regarding the use of proton pump inhibitors in patients with reflux disease. In addition, there is limited evidence for the use of these PPIs in patients with GERD.
The purpose of this review is to review the literature and identify clinical studies that have evaluated the use of proton pump inhibitors in patients with reflux disease. The literature review was conducted on the basis of the Cochrane systematic review database using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses software.
